Kevin Opstedal was the first person ever to publish my poems in Gas Magazine years ago (1997 or ’98) during a brief and unfortunate stint I spent studying at New College. Not only a brilliant writer and dogged staple-bound publisher, Kevin lives in Palo Alto and always maintains a healthy distance from the careerists and their endless bullshittery. “The Coleridge of California” is my prediction for how he’ll be remembered. He’s got gobs of great books including Heavy Water with photographs by Pamela Dewey (Surf Donkey, 2003), Like Rain (Angry Dog Press, 1999).
