I barely know Lucas Michael through Darin Klein, but this book is so preternaturally simple and brilliant. Lucas originally sent the manuscript to Will Yackulic for a magazine Will was putting out at the time called Poorly Rendered. Because of their quasi-conceptual nature, they didn’t really fit into Will’s magazine, so he sent them on to me. You can’t spit in Colorado without hitting a regrettable landscape painting. This book completely reinvents the form. Lucas lives in LA, I think.
